Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Governor of Thailand visits Myeik District of Myanmar to discuss trade promotion

It has been learned that the Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand, visited Myeik District, Myanmar, to discuss trade promotion between the two districts. On September 9, a delegation of 11 people, including Mr. SITTHICHAI SWADSAEN, the Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand, met with the Chairman of the Myeik District Administration and Governance Committee and business leaders. A discussion meeting was held at Hotel Grand Jade on Central Road, Myitnge Ward, Myeik City, to promote cooperation in trade, investment, and friendship between Myeik District and Prachuap Khiri Khan District as sister cities. U Hla Than, Chairman of the Myeik District Chamber of Commerce, said, "Regarding trade, the Motown Border Trade Station and the Sinkun Border Trade Station have already been opened. During the period from 2013 to 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately 15 meetings were held between Myeik District and Prachuap District concerning trade. Myeik District's main products are seafood, rubber, betel nuts, and copra. There are over 800 islands and many places for leisure and recreation. Myeik District and Prachuap Khiri Khan District have had friendly relations even before signing the sister city agreement." It is reported that the representatives of both countries held discussions in various sectors. It is known that Myeik and Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in Thailand are economic cities connected by land, approximately just over 120 miles apart, linking the eastern and western seas. However, it is understood that trade cannot yet be conducted due to the current unstable regional situation.
