Cambodia and Japan to Strengthen Cooperation in Water Resource Management and Agriculture

A delegation from Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Ministry of Rural Development visited Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and held discussions with Vice Minister HIROSE KEN (also a Member of the House of Representatives). The meeting took place in Tokyo on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Mr. PECH VASSANA, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, who led the Cambodian delegation, conveyed the profound gratitude of Minister THONG CHEATHA to the Japanese government and people, and particularly to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Japan has consistently provided active support for Cambodia's water resource management and development through the dispatch of policy advisors and the provision of technical cooperation projects. In response, Vice Minister HIROSE KEN expressed great pleasure with the results of the excellent cooperation in water resource management and development in Cambodia to date. The Vice Minister emphasized the intention to further strengthen and expand the cooperation between Cambodia and Japan in the water resources sector, making it more profound and comprehensive for the benefit of sustainable development. This meeting highlights the importance of international cooperation for Cambodia's infrastructure development and agricultural productivity improvement. Stable water resource supply is fundamental to agricultural production and is an urgent issue for Cambodia, which is highly vulnerable to climate change. Japan's technical assistance and know-how are expected to significantly contribute to Cambodia's food security and economic development.
