Met Dept Denies Looming 'Massive Flood' in 120 Hours

THE Meteorological Department this evening (Sep. 22) quashed reports circulating on social media that a “massive flood is coming in 120 hours” as the actual forecast is for heavy to very heavy rain in many areas during Sep.23-27, PPTVHD36 said. Mr. Nattawut Dandee, the department’s deputy director-general, said a strong low-pressure system, a monsoon trough, and an intensifying southwesterly monsoon will bring heavy rain to many areas and very heavy rain to some locations . However, predictions of a “massive flood” or continuous, round-the-clock heavy rainfall do not align with the department’s forecasts. The actual situation requiring vigilance involves heavy and accumulated rainfall, which could trigger flash floods, forest runoff, and inundation in at-risk areas. During Sep. 23–27, the Northern region, lower Northeastern region, Eastern region, Central region (including Bangkok and its vicinity), and other areas along the monsoon trough must remain alert for heavy to very heavy rain. Additionally, wind and wave conditions in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to intensify. The public is urged to closely monitor announcements and information from the Meteorological Department and not panic over information circulated on social media without verifying the source.
