In Vietnam's Central Highlands, a 31-year-old woman experiencing severe labor pains and heavy bleeding in a remote mountainous area was safely transported to a hospital by police and medical staff after traversing over 15 kilometers of difficult terrain. The incident highlights the challenges of healthcare access in rural regions. Around 7 PM on July 17, Ms. La Lan Thi Sế, 31, began experiencing intense abdominal pain and significant bleeding, along with signs of labor, while working with her husband to cut sugarcane in the Núi Đá Bàn area of Xuân Sơn village, Vân Hòa commune. This location is deep within the forest and far from any medical facilities. Sensing his wife was in danger, the husband called for assistance from the authorities. Lieutenant Colonel Hà Minh Cường, Deputy Head of Vân Hòa Commune Police, along with two other officers, medical staff from the local health station, and personnel from the Department of Economics, equipped with medical supplies, headed to the scene using a specialized truck. According to the Vân Hòa Commune Police, the makeshift shelter where the couple was temporarily staying was situated in a mountainous forest area, over 15 kilometers from the commune center, with a challenging road. The team traveled by truck for over 30 minutes, and the final stretch required them to proceed on foot to reach the pregnant woman. After providing initial first aid, the authorities carefully transported Ms. Sế on a stretcher to the vehicle. She was then taken to the Phú Yên Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, located over 50 kilometers from the incident site. Ms. Sế subsequently gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 3 kilograms, with both mother and child in stable condition. Ms. Sế is of Cham ethnicity, residing in Ma Giai village, Phú Túc commune, Gia Lai province. She and her husband had come to Vân Hòa commune for temporary work.
