Cambodia Governor Orders Thorough Update of Veteran and Retiree Data

Banteay Meanchey Provincial Governor Oum Ratry has issued a firm directive to all municipal and district secretariat working groups to prioritize and meticulously update the data of veterans and retirees within their respective areas. The directive specifically mandates a clear distinction between veterans and retirees. This instruction was given during the announcement ceremony for the expert working group members of the Secretariat of the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Association of Veterans and Retirees, held on the afternoon of July 1, 2026. The significant event was presided over by Governor Oum Ratry at the provincial association's headquarters in Poen Village, Kampong Svay Commune, Serer Saophoan City, Banteay Meanchey Province. The primary objective of this ceremony was to strengthen the work structure and ensure the efficiency of data management and service provision for veterans and retirees in the province. Governor Oum Ratry emphasized the importance of collaboration between the municipal and district secretariat working groups and local authorities in collecting statistics and updating the lists of veterans and retirees. He stated that clearly differentiating between these two groups is crucial for ensuring the accuracy of reports submitted to the provincial association's secretariat for systematic data collection, review, and evaluation. Furthermore, Governor Oum Ratry instructed all working groups to pay special attention to every application submitted by veterans and retirees. All requests must undergo thorough scrutiny and evaluation, including on-site inspections of their living conditions, to verify if they genuinely meet the criteria and are indeed experiencing hardship. If the inspection results confirm their difficult circumstances, their requests will be granted without discrimination. This demonstrates the high level of care from the provincial administration and the association towards the well-being of veterans and retirees who have sacrificed for the nation. It is noteworthy that the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Association of Veterans and Retirees was officially established on November 15, 2025, under the high presidency of General Kun Kim, Deputy Prime Minister, Vice President, and Secretary-General of the Association of Veterans and Retirees of Cambodia. Concurrently, the municipal and district associations of veterans and retirees were officially announced on May 12, 2026. Currently, Banteay Meanchey Province manages a total of 6,757 veterans, with 8,574 dependents. This includes 1,270 families of fallen heroes, 670 families of deceased individuals, 2,672 retirees, 38 individuals with disabilities, and 2,107 individuals with disabilities. The association members comprise 5,552 individuals, including 704 families of fallen heroes, 133 families of deceased individuals, 2,599 retirees, 38 individuals with reduced capacity, and 2,078 individuals with disabilities. In addition, there are 2,208 retired civil servants currently being managed, including 1,746 retirees, 19 individuals with reduced capacity, and 443 dependents. Governor Oum Ratry's directive is a significant step towards ensuring that all veterans and retirees receive appropriate attention and support from the nation, in line with the Cambodian government's policy of always considering their livelihoods and well-being. This data update will serve as a robust foundation for planning and implementing various assistance programs effectively and transparently.
