Hoi An lanterns illuminate Hong Kong Mid-Autumn Festival with Vietnamese colors
Traditional lanterns from Hoi An, Vietnam's ancient central city, were showcased at Hong Kong's Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, introducing Vietnamese culture and colors to an international stage. The event served as an opportunity to promote cultural exchange and the charm of Vietnamese traditional crafts globally.
Vibrant traditional lanterns from Hoi An, the ancient city in Vietnam's central Quang Nam province, were displayed at the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations in Hong Kong, attracting the attention of many attendees. Star-shaped and carp-shaped lanterns, along with other traditional Vietnamese decorations, added a unique Vietnamese flair to the local cultural event. The event was part of a cultural exchange program jointly organized by the Embassy of Colombia, the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs, the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Centre. This initiative is expected to strengthen cultural exchanges between the two countries, deepen connections among young people, and promote friendship. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the protection and promotion of cultural heritage are also emphasized from the perspective of strengthening national unity and identity. Showcasing traditional crafts from historic cities like Hoi An at international events can be seen as a strategic effort to enhance cultural soft power and boost tourism revenue. In recent years, Vietnam's economy has achieved remarkable growth, with the development of the cultural and tourism industries being a crucial pillar alongside manufacturing. The exhibition of lanterns in Hong Kong serves as a prime example of the economic potential of Vietnam's traditional culture and will contribute to improving Vietnam's image on the international stage. Furthermore, while Vietnam's relationship with China is complex, promoting Vietnam's unique culture to the international community through cultural events holds significant importance for safeguarding national interests. Especially in Hong Kong, a region with deep ties to mainland China, such cultural introductions can be interpreted as a delicate diplomatic approach to maintain Vietnam's identity while fostering international exchange.
