The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced on September 7th at 8 AM that river water levels in Hpa-an and Madauk have exceeded warning levels. According to the announcement, the Salween River in Hpa-an has reached about 8 inches above the city's warning level and is expected to drop by about 5 inches within the next day, but will remain above the city's warning level. The Sittoung River in Madauk has also reached about 10 inches above the city's warning level and is expected to drop by about 6 inches within the next day, but will remain above the city's warning level. Therefore, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has alerted residents living near the riverbanks and in low-lying areas of Hpa-an and Madauk to evacuate to safe locations to avoid flood damage.
