Cambodia-Laos Border: National Road 94 Over 50km Under Urgent Repair to Boost Economy

The Department of Public Works and Transport in Preah Vihear province is carrying out urgent repair work on National Road 94, which stretches over 54.9 kilometers from Ruessei Treb to Kampong Sralao, near the Cambodia-Laos border, within the Chhep district. The road maintenance and repair team from the department is actively engaged in ongoing maintenance, utilizing machinery and skilled officials to continuously repair the road and restore it to good condition for use. Mr. Sam Liangtri confirmed that under the close leadership and attention of H.E. Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, and with regular guidance from H.E. Kim Rithy, Governor of Preah Vihear Province, the provincial Department of Public Works and Transport is diligently working to maintain, repair, and improve the road network under its management. This is to ensure that citizens can travel safely, conveniently, and save time. The road repair and maintenance team from the department is currently performing regular maintenance on National Road 94 (a gravel road) spanning a total length of 54.9 kilometers, from Ruessei Treb to Kampong Sralao (Cambodia-Laos border) in Chhep district. They are using machinery and skilled officials to intervene and repair the road continuously to restore its usability. Mr. Sam Liangtri, Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport of Preah Vihear Province, expressed his apologies to all citizens and travelers who have faced difficulties in their journeys recently. He attributed these issues to continuous heavy rainfall, which caused slippery conditions and damage to certain sections, preventing the team from deploying machinery for immediate intervention due to unfavorable weather conditions. The Director stated that following the improvement of the weather, the technical team has deployed machinery to level and compact the road again. Repair work has progressed, with approximately 4 kilometers already completed. However, he noted that if heavy rain persists, the repair work may have to be temporarily suspended to preserve the quality of the work and avoid further damage. Mr. Sam Liangtri added that the Department of Public Works and Transport of Preah Vihear Province will continue to strive to strengthen the maintenance of all roads under its management, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry's leadership and the provincial administration. This is to ensure that the road network remains in good condition, facilitating travel and goods transportation, reducing costs, saving time for the citizens, and contributing to the economic and social development and more effective connectivity of border areas. Concurrently, the Director appealed to all citizens and travelers for their understanding and patience regarding the temporary disruptions.
