Cambodia Launches Cultural and Creative Industries Hub with UNESCO Support

PHNOM PENH, Aug 3, 2026 (KPT) — A UNESCO‑supported initiative has been launched to strengthen Cambodia’s cultural and creative economy through a national policy framework and the country’s first Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) Support Hub, officials said Monday. The project is led by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts with support from UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity and the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. It aims to create an enabling environment for Cambodia’s creative sector. Officials said cultural and creative industries are vital drivers of growth, innovation, employment and social inclusion, while preserving heritage and promoting artistic expression. But the sector faces challenges including limited awareness, fragmented information and weak coordination among government agencies, businesses and civil society. The initiative has two components. The first will develop a National CCI Policy through comparative research, nationwide mapping of creative assets, evidence‑based policy design and capacity building for officials. The second will establish the country’s first CCI Support Hub at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh. The hub will serve as a physical and digital platform, offering co‑working spaces, studios and rehearsal rooms, alongside advisory services on intellectual property, business registration, taxation, finance and market access. Training in entrepreneurship and creative business development will also be provided. The ministry said the hub is expected to foster collaboration and innovation, strengthening Cambodia’s creative economy ecosystem and unlocking the sector’s contribution to sustainable development.
