Jakarta Aims to Eliminate Tangled Wires in 5 Years: Governor's Target for Urban Landscape Overhaul
The Governor of Jakarta has set a target to eliminate the city's chaotic overhead wires within five years. The ambitious plan involves burying approximately 6,500 kilometers of cables, requiring public-private partnerships and an estimated budget of Rp90 billion. This initiative aims to dramatically transform Jakarta's urban landscape.
Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, stated his intention to tackle the tangled wires in the capital, setting a target for the work to be completed within five years. "Frankly, I am planning for all the wires on the surface to be taken underground within five years. If that can be achieved, the face of Jakarta will surely be very different. Can five years be achieved or not? Because it requires approximately 6,500 km to be handled," said Pramono during a review of SJUT in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Thursday (10/9). Pramono mentioned that the development of Integrated Utility Networks (SJUT) will involve various parties, not just the Public Works Agency. "The involvement of the private sector is very necessary for this, together, because the legal umbrella already exists. We believe it is also attractive from a business perspective, so that the lowering of these cables can become a joint movement by all existing stakeholders in Jakarta." Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Public Works Agency, Heru Suwondo, stated that the cost of building SJUT on several road sections in Jakarta reaches Rp90 billion. "So our budget to build this SJUT is 90 billion on eight road sections, sir," said Heru. Heru explained that the construction of SJUT is carried out along 16.9 kilometers with locations on main roads. "It turns out the length is 16.9 kilometers, and the locations are on MT Haryono, Gatot Subroto, Soepomo, Abdullah Syafei, Saharjo, Pemuda, Otista, Tebet Barat Dalam Raya, Matraman, and Jatinegara," he said. Heru ensured that the construction of SJUT is carried out in coordination with various agencies, one of which is the Transportation Agency. "So all our activities on the road body are carried out with traffic engineering together with the Transportation Agency.
