Heavy Rain and Strong Winds in Phnom Penh Cause 3 Trees to Fall, Damaging 3 Vehicles

On the afternoon of July 23, 2026, Phnom Penh experienced localized heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, leading to three trees falling and causing damage to three vehicles. One incident occurred near the US Embassy on Street 106, Wat Phnom commune, Daun Penh district. A Mazda EZ-6 car and an Indian-made tricycle were damaged when a Delonix regia tree fell on them. Approximately 10 minutes later, two more trees fell. One fell onto Preah Norodom Street in Boeung Keng Kang district, causing minor damage to a Lexus car. Another tree fell on Street 288 in the same district, but no injuries were reported. Authorities attributed the falling trees to severe wind gusts associated with the rainy season. Following the incidents, the Department of Public Works and Transport of Boeung Keng Kang district responded to clear the fallen trees and ease traffic congestion. This series of falling tree incidents highlights the vulnerability of urban infrastructure, particularly the management of aging trees in metropolitan areas.
