Electric Motorcycles in Indonesia Promise Significant Savings, Potentially Saving Millions of Rupiah Annually
Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast is promoting electric motorcycles in Indonesia, highlighting significant operational cost reductions compared to gasoline-powered vehicles. With battery swaps costing Rp 6,000 for 80km, and lower maintenance, annual savings of millions of rupiah are projected.
Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast is promoting the adoption of electric motorcycles in Indonesia, promising high efficiency and significant operational cost reductions for users compared to conventional gasoline-powered bikes. Yordan Satriadi, CEO of VinFast E-Motorcycle Indonesia, highlighted the cost benefits of their battery swap scheme. The battery swap service costs Rp 6,000 per exchange, providing a range of approximately 80 kilometers. This is significantly cheaper than refueling a gasoline motorcycle for the same distance, which would require about 2 liters of gasoline (estimated at Rp 20,000 if gasoline is Rp 10,000 per liter), resulting in savings of around 70%. VinFast has already established over 2,000 battery swap points across Indonesia. Furthermore, VinFast offers the flexibility of home charging for its three newly released models: Evo, Viper, and Feliz II. The company emphasizes that the reduced number of moving parts in electric motorcycles leads to a substantially lower cost of ownership over the long term. Maintenance is simplified, as there is no need for regular oil changes and other common servicing items. Internal calculations by VinFast suggest that owners can save approximately Rp 3 million annually. Over a period of 5-6 years, these savings could accumulate to nearly Rp 18 million, potentially equivalent to the price of a new motorcycle. VinFast offers flexible ownership options, including battery swap schemes, battery subscription plans, and full battery ownership for its Evo, Viper, and Feliz models, catering to various consumer budgets and needs. The company also provides comprehensive protection with an extended warranty, covering the main vehicle for 4 years or 60,000 kilometers, plus an additional 2 years or 12,000 kilometers (terms and conditions apply), totaling up to 6 years or 72,000 kilometers.
