Prosecutor in Chromebook Case Promoted to Head of North Jakarta District Attorney's Office

The Indonesian Prosecutor's Office has implemented a significant reshuffling of personnel, as stipulated in the Attorney General's Decree Number Kep-IV-10422/C/09/2026, dated September 22, 2026. Among those promoted is Roy Riady, the prosecutor who handled the indictment of former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim in the Chromebook procurement corruption case. Riady will now serve as the Head of the North Jakarta District Attorney's Office (Kepala Kejaksaan Negeri Jakarta Utara). Prior to this appointment, Riady served as the Assistant for Asset Recovery at the High Prosecutor's Office of Lampung. He replaces Syahrul Juaksha Subuki, who has been promoted to Assistant for General Crimes at the High Prosecutor's Office of West Java. This rotation involves 16 officials and was ordered by Attorney General ST Buhanuddin. The decree was signed by the Junior Attorney General for General Affairs, Hendro Dewanto, and confirmed by the Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General's Office, Anang Supriatna. Riady has a notable track record, having been involved in several cases, including the alleged corruption in the procurement of Chromebooks that implicated former Minister Nadiem Makarim. As the Public Prosecutor in that case, Riady requested the panel of judges to sentence Makarim to 18 years in prison, accompanied by fines and restitution of trillions of rupiah. Specifically, Riady demanded a prison sentence of 18 years, with credit for time served, and ordered the defendant to be immediately detained. He also requested additional penalties, including the payment of replacement money amounting to Rp 809,596,125,000 (approximately Rp 809 billion) and Rp 4,871,469,603,758 (approximately Rp 4.8 trillion), deemed to be assets disproportionate to the defendant's legal income or suspected to be from corruption. The demand stipulated that if the replacement money was not paid within one month of the verdict becoming final, the defendant's assets could be seized and auctioned to cover the amount. If the defendant's assets were insufficient, an additional nine years of imprisonment would be imposed. The decree lists other appointments, including: 1.
