Shan State-wide Vinayadinugga Examination Ceremony for Awarding Successful Candidates and Certificates Held Grandly

It is reported that the ceremony for awarding successful candidates and certificates of the Shan State-wide Vinayadinugga Examination was held grandly. It is reported that the ceremony for awarding successful candidates and certificates for the 86th Shan State-wide Vinayadinugga Examination and the 89th Aunsaung Re-examination, which are held annually in Nyaungshwe, began on Saturday, July 4, 1388, the 5th day of the waxing moon of the first Wazo month, at 12 noon. According to records, there were a total of 5 monks who passed the Vinayadinugga Examination in Shan State-wide, including one monk who passed the general Vinayadinugga course, two who passed two general Vinayadinugga courses, and two who passed one general Vinayadinugga course. According to records, in the Shan State-wide Vinayadinugga Examination, there were a total of 3223 registered monks, 524 absentees, and 2699 examinees across 7 levels: primary, first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. A total of 2146 monks passed the examination and Aunsaung re-examination. It was observed that the Shan State-wide Vinayadinugga Examination, which had been suspended for six years due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, resumed in 2026, attracting a large and enthusiastic crowd of pilgrims. Along the route taken by the monks who passed the examination, pilgrims laid out flower carpets as a sign of respect, a custom that has been practiced for many years. The Intha ethnic group refers to this as the "Path of the Devas." This "Path of the Devas" (or "Flower Carpet Path") involved piling up various types of flowers, reaching about knee-high, at the entrance of the temple precinct, and donations of money and goods were also offered to the monks. A unique feature of the examination was that the answer sheets were checked and results were released on the same day. After the 7-day examination, there was a one-day break, and on July 4, the ceremony for awarding certificates and the Dhamma talk event were held.
