Cambodia: Labor Ministry Brings Over 2,000 Job Opportunities to Local Districts

The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has organized a mobile job fair in Angkor Chey district, Kampot province, bringing over 2,000 job opportunities, benefits from the National Social Security Fund (NIS), and TVET programs directly to the local community. The initiative aims to expand employment, skills, and income, particularly for former migrant workers returning from Thailand and young job seekers. Under the theme "Khmers Help Find Jobs and Give Jobs to Khmers," the forum attracted nearly 400 citizens. Veng Heang, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, stated that Cambodia currently has over 90,000 domestic job opportunities. This mobile event allows citizens to register and interview for jobs locally, saving them time and money compared to seeking employment independently. He highlighted that domestic jobs offer not only wages and benefits but also protection from NIS, including coverage for work-related risks, healthcare, and pensions. This provides a secure environment close to family, contrasting with the risks associated with migration to Thailand, such as potential safety hazards, labor exploitation, lack of health protection, violence, and discrimination. For those intending to work abroad, the ministry encourages legal migration channels that offer protection and higher salaries. Furthermore, former migrant workers and young people can enroll in the "TVET 1.5 Million" program for free technical training in fields like construction, air conditioning repair, electrical installation, baking, barista services, and beauty treatments. These flexible programs offer various schedules and options, equipping individuals with skills for self-employment or higher-paying jobs. Mr. Heang urged citizens to disseminate this information to their families and friends and provided hotline numbers for inquiries: 1297 for job and skills training information, and 1286 for NIS services. The 2,412 job opportunities presented at the fair were offered by companies including Ventura Weaver (CD) Co., Ltd., Thakao Agri Company, Vanly Tyre (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., ABA Bank, and Mongkol HR Company, which also recruits for jobs in Japan.
