Vietnam and Cambodia are seeking to deepen investment cooperation and enhance collaboration, particularly in the realm of digital transformation. Vietnam currently has 223 investment projects in Cambodia, with a total registered capital of nearly US$3.4 billion, operating in sectors such as agriculture, finance, telecommunications, aviation, processing, trade, and services. Strengthening connectivity among the three countries would help them better leverage their respective advantages and expand links with broader regional frameworks, including the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and ASEAN, said Prof. Dr. Le Van Loi, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS). Cooperation between the two nations is also advancing in the exchange of experiences in digital transformation within the media sector and in strengthening external information dissemination to promote the images of both countries. A delegation of Cambodian journalists visited Vietnam to explore these cooperation possibilities. Domestically, a draft law is being considered that would allow the government to periodically adjust market access restrictions for foreign investors based on socio-economic conditions and management requirements. This approach aims to shorten policy lags amid rapid changes in international capital flows, technology, and supply chains, as Vietnam shifts its investment attraction focus from quantity to quality and efficiency. Economically, Vietnam's automobile industry is entering a new stage of development, with an increasing number of exporters. However, international markets also present significant challenges related to localization, supporting industries, technological capabilities, human resources, and country-specific technical standards. Vietnam aims to maintain its position as a growth leader in Southeast Asia while attracting higher-quality foreign direct investment (FDI) and deepening its participation in global value chains.
