The Ministry of Electricity and Energy has requested the public to cooperate in protecting and maintaining the nation's electricity system and to identify and report those who engage in sabotage and destruction. It is reported that due to the destruction of some major power lines, the remaining power lines are currently bearing double the load. The statement indicates that prolonged carrying of such excessive loads causes damage to the transmission lines, leading to a decrease in their carrying capacity. More seriously, to protect the entire electricity system, including major power lines, from lightning strikes, the ground wires (earth wires) installed on the towers are being cut and stolen, and iron frames and bolts at the base of the towers are being removed and stolen. As a result, the electricity system is left unprotected from lightning strikes, causing further damage to the transmission lines, leading to their breakage and collapse, according to the statement. Furthermore, in some areas, to prevent bolts from being removed, electrical welding is being used for fixation. Over time, this can lead to rust formation at these points and potential damage to the towers. These incidents are considered acts of sabotage and destruction of the national electricity system, frequently causing problems throughout the system. This leads to power outages in various regions, and at times, nationwide blackouts and system breakdowns are the primary causes, according to the statement. When a system breakdown occurs, although staff work to identify and repair the faults immediately, regardless of time or location, the fastest power restoration takes 30 minutes, and in some areas, it takes about 5 hours, resulting in significant losses for the nation, the statement said.
