Coast Guard Region 2 Prepares for 2026 Training Competition

On August 8, the Command of Coast Guard Region 2 announced that Flotilla 21 is diligently preparing for the "Good Ship - Ship Training Competition" scheduled for 2026. This competition aims to enhance the proficiency and adaptability of vessels within the command to modern equipment. In recent years, Vietnam's Coast Guard has focused on modernizing its equipment and expanding training programs to address the increasing diversity and importance of its missions. The establishment of units equipped with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the reception of high-speed patrol boats demonstrate Vietnam's commitment to strengthening maritime security and improving its surveillance and response capabilities across a wide maritime domain. Specifically, the Coast Guard's activities extend beyond territorial waters security to include humanitarian aid and ensuring the safety of citizens' lives. This is exemplified by rescue operations for fishing vessels, particularly in the South China Sea (referred to as the "Truong Sa Islands" in Vietnam), and cooperation in collecting biological samples for the identification of fallen soldiers. This training competition will serve as an opportunity to comprehensively evaluate the skills honed through daily operations and the operational capabilities of new equipment, further enhancing readiness. Under Vietnam's one-party system, strengthening capabilities in the defense and security sector is considered an essential element for maintaining national sovereignty and stabilizing economic development. The role of the Coast Guard is becoming increasingly critical, especially in the context of the complex relationship with China in the South China Sea.
