Cambodia Attends High-Level Meeting on AI Governance in Shanghai, Seeks Global Cooperation Framework
Cambodia's Minister of Posts and Telecommunications attended a high-level meeting on AI governance in Shanghai. The meeting underscored the importance of establishing a global framework for AI and fostering international cooperation for human-centric and equitable development. Participants emphasized the need for fair distribution of AI's benefits worldwide.
His Excellency Chea Vandeth, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, attended the High-Level Meeting on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai, People's Republic of China, on July 18, 2026. The meeting was attended by approximately 400 participants, including ministers and high-level representatives from 65 countries, as well as representatives from the United Nations and various regional and international organizations. During the meeting, signatories to the agreement to establish the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a global framework for artificial intelligence governance and enhancing cooperation. Other participating countries shared a common stance that the transformation of artificial intelligence should prioritize human well-being and that its benefits should be equitably shared among all nations. On this occasion, His Excellency the Minister held bilateral discussions with Her Excellency Minette Libom Li Likeng, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications of Cameroon, and His Excellency Nguema Nze, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and Digital Economy of the Republic of the Congo. Discussions focused on exchanging experiences regarding digital transformation, and both counterparts were invited to participate in Francotech, an event to be held in November 2026 as part of the Francophonie Summit, which Cambodia will host.
