Banana-laden truck overturns on Yangon-Mandalay Expressway due to driver's drowsiness

A truck carrying bananas overturned on the central median of the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway due to the driver's drowsiness. This incident occurred around 8:20 AM on September 18, according to the Expressway Maintenance and Supervision Committee. The 4L---- Toyota Ace Light Truck, equipped with a Telematics system and carrying bananas, was traveling on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway between mileposts 179/5 and 179/6 (on the return lane from Nay Pyi Taw to Yangon) with a total of two male occupants, including the driver. The accident happened when the driver fell asleep and the vehicle veered into the central median, resulting in an overturn. No injuries were sustained by the occupants of the vehicle due to the overturning accident. It was also observed that the tires on the rear wheels of the vehicle were significantly worn. As most traffic accidents on the expressway are caused by driver drowsiness, the Expressway Maintenance and Supervision Committee has issued a notice urging drivers to take short breaks at rest stops after every two hours of continuous driving, for all passengers to securely fasten their seatbelts (and for vehicle staff/drivers to remind passengers who are not wearing seatbelts to do so), and to refrain from exceeding the designated speed limits according to vehicle type.
