Cambodian Red Cross Conducts Hygiene and Environment Training at Refugee Camp
The Cambodian Red Cross has launched a three-day training on "Clean Water and Environmental Hygiene" for volunteers at the Rumchum refugee camp in Banteay Meanchey province. Supported by the ICRC, the initiative aims to improve the health of residents.
AKP Phnom Penh, July 15, 2026—Mr. Hyl Raya, Honorary Vice President of the Cambodian Red Cross Banteay Meanchey Branch, on July 14, 2026, presided over the opening of a training course on "Clean Water and Environmental Hygiene, Basic Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, First Aid, and Action Plan Implementation." The training is being held for volunteers at the Rumchum refugee camp, located in Rumchum Village, Sla Kram Commune, Svay Chek District, Banteay Meanchey Province. The course will last for three days, from July 14 to July 16, 2026, with financial support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The opening of this training course aims to contribute to and promote clean water and environmental sanitation, which are crucial components in supporting the community health of the citizens residing in the Rumchum refugee camp, enabling them to achieve good health and be free from various diseases. Mr. Hyl Raya stated that this training is of great importance for Cambodian Red Cross volunteers, enabling them to acquire the knowledge and skills to disseminate and educate the citizens in Rumchum Village. Therefore, he expressed his hope that the participants in this training will strive with all their might and engage in all activities with the instructors to gain knowledge and bring these valuable lessons back to their respective communities. After exchanging pleasantries with the technical team and all the volunteers present at the Rumchum Village ceremony, he expressed his gratitude and best wishes to Her Excellency Dr. Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, for her continuous concern for the well-being of the people. He also thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Cambodia, the technical officials from the Cambodian Red Cross headquarters, and the coordination team of the special operations working group stationed in Banteay Meanchey Province for their cooperation in organizing and facilitating the opening ceremony. He wished them good health, good fortune, and success in all their endeavors, and expressed hope for a successful training with excellent results.
