Vietnam's Top Leader Vows Stronger International Cooperation

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President To Lam has expressed Vietnam's proactive stance in strengthening international cooperation during a series of meetings held over the weekend. During his engagements, President To Lam urged the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to enhance coordination with Vietnamese ministries, sectors, and businesses to identify strategic, high-impact projects for targeted support, particularly in crucial areas such as energy and power grids, digital infrastructure and data centers, aviation, seaports, logistics, and modern transportation. This reflects Vietnam's drive to accelerate economic growth and address its infrastructure development needs. In a meeting with a group of U.S. House lawmakers, President To Lam conveyed Vietnam's aspiration for the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to continue developing in a stable and long-term manner, aligning with the interests and aspirations of both countries' peoples. He also called on the U.S. to continue supporting Vietnam in addressing war consequences, implementing community support programs, and tackling environmental issues. This highlights the enduring significance of the Vietnam War's legacy and the ongoing need for international support in overcoming its aftermath. Regarding relations with Türkiye, President To Lam proposed working towards a bilateral trade target of $4 billion by seeking Türkiye's recognition of Vietnam's market economy status, mutual market opening, and reduction of trade barriers. This underscores the importance of market economy recognition for Vietnam's deeper integration into the global economic system. In discussions concerning relations with Canada, the Vietnamese leader noted the potential for science, technology, and innovation to move beyond academic exchanges and individual projects, becoming a substantive pillar of Vietnam-Canada relations and generating concrete products, businesses, and economic value for both nations. This points to the significance of collaboration with developed countries as Vietnam aims for innovation-driven growth. Furthermore, Vietnam affirmed its firm resolve to address domestic shortcomings, specifically by encouraging scientists to conduct research and pursue innovation, and by developing practical and effective products. This signals the direction of domestic policies aimed at achieving the dual goals of "innovation" and "development" set forth by the Communist Party of Vietnam. A delegation from the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) visited the Republic of Korea (RoK) to strengthen cooperation in public governance, digital government, and the training of Vietnamese leaders and managers. This indicates the focus on human resource development and enhancing administrative capacity within Vietnam's one-party system. Through dialogue with the international community, Vietnam seeks to promote economic growth, technological innovation, and social development.
