Cambodia's Industrial Sector Drives Economic Growth: Over 3,300 Factories, $28 Billion+ Investment

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has highlighted the significant contribution of the country's industrial sector to national economic growth. As of July 2026, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation has registered a total of 3,357 factories nationwide, attracting over $28 billion in investment. Prime Minister Hun Manet made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the GAC vehicle assembly plant by THAM Company in Kampong Chhnang province. Among the registered factories, the industrial sector encompasses 24 sub-sectors and 107 industrial classifications, employing approximately 1.36 million workers. Women constitute over 950,000 of this workforce, representing 70.15%. The total investment in this sector exceeds $28 billion, an increase of over $6 billion, or 28.82%, compared to the same period last year. Domestic capital investment amounts to over $4.3 billion, accounting for 15.46% of the total investment. According to the Prime Minister, the industrial sector's contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has grown from 12.6% in 1993 to 43.2% in 2025, with a continued upward trend expected. This signifies Cambodia's economic transformation from a traditional agricultural base to a diversified and robust economy capable of embracing new, high-value industries. Prime Minister Hun Manet highly commended the Council for the Development of Cambodia, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and all relevant ministries and institutions for their efforts in facilitating and supporting the investment process. He encouraged all stakeholders to continue working together under the "Single Window System" approach to enhance the efficiency, competitiveness, and innovation of Cambodia's investment and business environment. The Prime Minister further stated that investments such as vehicle assembly not only create jobs but also facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skills in the automotive sector to Cambodian citizens.
