A cyberattack targeting a Japanese company has sent ripples through Cambodia's supply chain, highlighting international vulnerabilities. The cyberattack on major Japanese frozen food company Nichirei Corp., attributed to the Russian-linked hacking group RansomHouse, not only disrupted Nichirei's operations but also indirectly affected related companies within Cambodia. On July 13, Nichirei detected system failures affecting inbound and outbound operations at its refrigerated warehouses. This disruption led to shortened business hours and limited menu items at KFC Japan, and delays in product shipments, including frozen foods, for major retailer Aeon. These issues are now in the process of being restored. RansomHouse claimed responsibility on a dark website, asserting that it had stolen internal data from Nichirei. This attack underscores the interconnectedness of supply chains and the potential for a single point of vulnerability to cause widespread impact. Cambodia's economy, particularly its tourism and garment sectors, heavily relies on international supply chains.
