Battambang Province Observes World Clean Day, Pushing Plastic Waste Reduction and Urban Greening

Battambang Province in western Cambodia held a ceremony to mark the 9th World Clean Day on September 21, 2026, at the Sohe Secondary School grounds in Battambang City. The event was presided over by the Provincial Governor, Sok Lu. The World Clean Day aims to promote the cleanup of plastic waste and raise awareness about the impacts of increasing plastic waste on the planet. It also supports the vision of the Ministry of Environment's 'Clean, Green, and Sustainable' campaign. This initiative contributes to the objectives of the UNDP's Plastic Circular Economy project by reducing, collecting, sorting, recycling, and managing plastic waste responsibly. Governor Sok Lu instructed civil servants, armed forces, teachers, youth, and students to maintain environmental hygiene and properly dispose of waste. He also presented a vision to develop Battambang City into a smart, clean, green, and walkable city, facilitating better living conditions for residents and enhancing its appeal to tourists. The governor further urged all relevant parties to continue planting more trees in public areas and along roadsides across all cities, districts, communes, and villages throughout Battambang Province. The Battambang Provincial Administration launched the 'One House, One Tree' campaign in all cities and districts on July 11, 2024, and it is being implemented continuously to foster a love for green environments, encourage tree planting, and ensure the healthy growth of planted trees, thereby enhancing the aesthetic beauty of the green environment for the benefit of current and future generations.
