Cambodian Farmers Trained in Climate-Resilient Organic Rice Cultivation Under PEARL Project
In Cambodia's Preah Vihear province, 240 organic rice farmers are undergoing training in climate-resilient cultivation techniques. Part of the PEARL Project, supported by the Green Climate Fund, the initiative aims to boost productivity and meet market demand.
AKP Phnom, September 16, 2026 — A total of 240 key farmers from eight organic rice agricultural cooperatives in Preah Vihear province are undergoing specialised training in climate-resilient rice production techniques through the Farmer Field School (FFS) programme running from mid-August to December 2026 across eight demonstration sites. Led by the Department of Rice Crop Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, alongside the Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the initiative is implemented through the PEARL Project with support from the Green Climate Fund. Through hands-on experiential learning, participants are acquiring practical skills in seed selection and purification, land preparation, line planting, soil fertility enhancement, water and weed management, biological pest control, and post-harvest handling techniques. The model farmers are implementing these practices across the demonstration fields while actively sharing their knowledge with neighbouring farming communities to boost productivity, mitigate crop losses, combat climate challenges, and deliver high-quality organic rice to meet growing market demand.
