NBI probes deworming death, gets student master list

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Homicide Division on Wednesday received a compilation of documents from Hugo Perez Elementary School-Annex in Trece Martires City, Cavite, the school attended by the Grade 4 student who died after a deworming program. According to the NBI Homicide Division, the documents include certain memoranda as well as a master list of students who underwent the deworming program. It was last Wednesday, July 15, when NBI Director Melvin Matibag confirmed that the bureau conducted an autopsy on the Grade 4 student’s body. Matibag said the doctor who performed the examination told him the findings would take two weeks to complete. READ: NBI examines body of student who died after school deworming The autopsy came after the student’s parents, Leo and Ruthchie Mission, went to the NBI Homicide Division last July 13 to seek assistance to determine the cause of the death of their 8-year-old son. The father noted that his child had no prior illness before the deworming activity at the school on July 2. The Department of Education earlier said that the student’s death after the school deworming activity was caused by an infection that led to septic shock.
