The Thai government has confirmed that the election for the Social Security Board (SSB) will proceed as scheduled on September 27. Officials emphasized there will be no delays or postponements, and are enhancing election preparations and encouraging participation from insured persons and employers.
The Thai government has reconfirmed that the election for the Social Security Board (SSB) will proceed as originally scheduled on September 27, 2026. Major Pataralassmee Thongsloykorn, Deputy Government Spokesperson, stated that the Minister of Labour has clearly affirmed the election will go ahead as planned, addressing concerns from insured individuals about potential delays or postponements. Regarding the administrative court's order to revoke the announcement postponing the SSB election and to proceed with the election as originally scheduled, an appeal has been filed. The spokesperson clarified that this is a normal part of legal procedures, filed previously to ensure thoroughness and legal rigor, and not an attempt to cancel the election. Major Pataralassmee also provided an update on the election preparations, noting a large number of employers and insured persons have registered to vote. The turnout is expected to be around 50%, or approximately 5 million people. In response, the Ministry of Labour plans to expand the number of polling stations from the current provincial level down to the district level, increasing from over 2,000 to more than 5,000 units. Efforts are also underway to expedite the creation of guidelines for determining valid and invalid ballots, as well as a system to prevent duplicate voting, ensuring a smooth and efficient voting process. The Deputy Government Spokesperson reiterated the government's commitment to proactively protect the rights and benefits of all insured persons. Employers and insured individuals are encouraged to exercise their right to vote in the SSB election on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, emphasizing that this election is a crucial opportunity for participation in shaping the future direction of fund management and insured persons' benefits.
