DILG Chief Denies Secret Plan to Fly Dela Rosa to ICC

MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Tuesday denied that authorities would secretly transport Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands. "We’re always open, always transparent naman. Hindi kami ganun. Wala kaming secret operations na hindi malalaman ng mga tao. We are always transparent,” Remulla said in a radio interview. The statement came amid reports that the ICC might reopen its investigation into the alleged crimes against humanity in connection with the Philippines’ bloody war on drugs during the previous administration. Dela Rosa, a former police chief, was a key figure in the Duterte administration’s anti-drug campaign, which has been criticized by human rights groups for alleged widespread abuses and extrajudicial killings. The Philippine government has consistently maintained that it will not cooperate with the ICC’s investigation, asserting that domestic legal processes are sufficient to address any alleged wrongdoing.
