Ca Mau Province Proactively Prepares for Severe El Nino Threat

Ca Mau Province in southern Vietnam is rapidly implementing comprehensive response measures to protect agricultural production, people's livelihoods, and daily life in anticipation of the projected intensification of El Nino during the 2026-2027 dry season. According to Vice Chairman Le Van Sử, the province's agricultural sector is urgently deploying a range of synchronized scenarios to cope with this severe forecast. The El Nino phenomenon has been rapidly strengthening its impact in recent years, raising concerns about increased risks of drought and saltwater intrusion, particularly in water-dependent regions like southern Vietnam. Based on past experiences, Ca Mau Province is prioritizing the enhancement of its risk management capabilities against these natural disasters. This is understood to include efficient water resource utilization, improvement of irrigation systems, and the introduction of salt-tolerant crops. The Vietnamese government has positioned adaptation measures to climate change as a national priority, and responses to extreme weather phenomena like El Nino are directly linked to food security and economic stability. Ca Mau Province's proactive preparations serve as an example of Vietnam's overall capacity to respond to climate change risks.
