Phu Tho Province, Vietnam, Establishes New Growth Engine Through Digital Transformation
Phu Tho Province in Vietnam is achieving remarkable results by positioning science-technology, innovation, and digital transformation (DX) as pillars of its national strategy. Through infrastructure development, digitalization of administrative services, and expansion of the digital economy, the province is on a new growth trajectory.
Phu Tho Province in northern Vietnam is achieving remarkable results by positioning science-technology, innovation, and digital transformation (DX) as new engines for national growth. Following Political Bureau Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, the province has identified these fields as strategic breakthroughs and developed and implemented concrete action plans tailored to local conditions. In terms of infrastructure, the development of digital foundations is progressing rapidly. Currently, 100% of communes and wards across the province are equipped with broadband fiber optic networks, and the 4G network covers 98% of the area. The 5G network covers 61% of the population and has been deployed throughout urban centers and industrial parks. This has strengthened the foundation for digital governance, digital economy, and digital society. Digitalization of administrative services has also advanced, with 1,574 provincial-level and 426 commune/ward-level administrative procedures offered online. Over 684,000 applications have been received, with more than 655,000 processed online. The evaluation on the National Public Service Portal reached 95.49/100 points, indicating improved service quality. Furthermore, six national databases, seven key specialized databases, and 47 provincial-level specialized databases are interconnected and utilized. Notably, in Ban Nguyen commune, formed by the merger of three communes, digital transformation has contributed to enhancing resident services. Since July 1, 2025, nearly 97% of over 8,200 administrative procedure applications have been processed online, with almost 100% completed on time or ahead of schedule. This has resulted in reduced processing times, lower travel costs for residents, and ensured transparency and fairness in work processing. Economically, the digital economy accounts for approximately 22.7% of the province's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), a high proportion nationwide. Many companies in sectors such as digital technology, electronic component manufacturing, and software development are growing, with digital product exports exceeding USD 7 billion, significantly contributing to regional economic growth. The science-technology and innovation ecosystem has also been strengthened, with 63 science-technology organizations, 23 higher education institutions, and numerous science-technology and high-tech enterprises operating effectively. Support for technological innovation in businesses is also actively provided. In 2025 alone, 10 enterprises received support totaling over VND 4 billion. Intellectual property development is also emphasized, with over 2,000 applications and more than 1,500 registrations granted. Additionally, over 5,000 community digital technology teams have been formed with about 30,000 members, playing a core role in disseminating digital technology to the people. The Deputy Director of the Phu Tho Department of Science and Technology stated that the achievements made so far confirm the province's correct direction in making science-technology, innovation, and digital transformation the driving force for development.
