Strong Winds Devastate Rakhine IDP Camps, Exposing Vulnerability and Urgent Shelter Needs

On April 29, strong winds swept through Ponnagyunt and Kyauktaw townships in Myanmar's Rakhine State, destroying numerous fragile shelters in internally displaced person (IDP) camps. This disaster has exacerbated an already severe humanitarian crisis, leaving IDPs exposed to the elements. With over 600,000 displaced persons in the state, according to an organization under the United Arakan National League (ULA), there is an urgent need for emergency shelter materials ahead of the monsoon season.
