However, on October 23, 2025, a major fire destroyed the original location, also damaging neighboring houses. Firefighters took three days to extinguish the blaze, and compensation for the affected neighbors has not yet been provided. Subsequently, with the understanding of the provincial administration, temporary shops were permitted to be built along the west bank of the Sangke River, near the new stone bridge and in front of the Provincial Referral Hospital. This temporary site was managed by the city administration until a new market could be rebuilt. On the morning of June 28, 2026, Mr. Liang Vasna, Governor of Battambang City, confirmed to "Kampuchea Thmey" that the lease for this temporary location has expired. He stated that a second notification has been issued to the market owner to dismantle the temporary market from the Sangke riverbank, following orders from the provincial governor. Governor Vasna indicated that forces would begin dismantling from the clothing stalls, followed by other merchandise areas, and finally the Heng Chailly market itself, should the owner fail to comply.
