Cambodia Seizes 24 Live Pigs Illegally Imported from Vietnam

Specialized forces from the General Department of Animal Health and Production, in collaboration with the Svay Rieng Provincial Department of Production and Animal Husbandry, intercepted a vehicle at 11:05 PM on September 5, 2026, carrying 24 live pigs illegally imported from Vietnam. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat illegal animal movements within the country. The seized pigs, weighing between 80 and 100 kilograms each, were transported in a SSANGYONG ISTANA vehicle (license plate Phnom Penh 2D-9552). They were reportedly smuggled through unofficial routes in the Romeas Hek district without any necessary permits. The pigs were intended for distribution and sale in the capital, Phnom Penh. Following the confiscation, the live pigs were transferred to the quarantine facility of the Svay Rieng Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries to undergo legal procedures. The Cambodian Livestock Raisers Association (CLRA), representing farmers nationwide, expressed profound gratitude and sincere admiration for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, particularly the General Department of Animal Health and Production, and the veterinary inspectors of Svay Rieng province. The association commended their active, rigorous, and tireless efforts in continuously preventing and cracking down on illegal animal trafficking. This action highlights the government's commitment to protecting the domestic livestock sector and ensuring fair competition for local farmers.
