Indonesia to Expand Legal Work Channels to Japan via SSW Scheme

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Muhadjir Effendy, is visiting Japan with the intention of expanding legal work channels for Indonesian citizens (WNI). This visit aims to maximize the utilization of Japan's "Specified Skilled Worker" (SSW) program to increase employment opportunities for Indonesian workers in Japan. This move is seen as an effort to increase opportunities for Indonesian citizens to work in a safer and more stable working environment. Previously, there were instances of Indonesians traveling and working in Japan through unofficial channels or facing poor working conditions. Utilizing the SSW program has the potential to mitigate these issues and protect workers' rights. It is expected that the visit by Coordinating Minister Muhadjir Effendy will further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the labor sector. Specifically, discussions are anticipated to cover the expansion of acceptance for Indonesian workers in job categories covered by the SSW program, as well as the enhancement of training programs. Through this, Indonesia aims for economic development through overseas labor, while Japan seeks to address its chronic labor shortage, pursuing outcomes that benefit both nations.
