IKN Spokesperson Dies Suddenly, Impact on Related Work Unclear

Troy Harold Yohanes Pantouw, Spokesperson for the Nusantara Capital Authority (IKN), was found dead in his residence on Saturday, July 25, 2026. According to Thomas Umbu Pati Tena Bolodadi, Deputy Head for Development Control at the IKN Authority, Mr. Pantouw had woken up and was active since around 6:00 AM WITA on Saturday. He was scheduled to depart for Balikpapan at 8:00 AM WITA to lead a church service. However, as his departure time approached, Mr. Pantouw became unresponsive. His personal driver repeatedly tried to contact him without success. Concerned, colleagues went to his room in Tower 6, ASN 3 Housing Complex, Nusantara City. The door was knocked and his name was called, but there was no response. The door, which was locked, was eventually forced open. Upon entering, Mr. Pantouw was found lying on his bed and was no longer breathing. Colleagues immediately transported him to RS Hermina IKN for confirmation of his condition. Around 12:45 PM WITA, he was handled by the medical team. Doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead at 2:25 PM WITA due to natural causes. Initial physical examinations revealed no suspicious signs on Mr. Pantouw's body. His family also stated that he had a history of hypertension and was regularly taking medication to control his blood pressure. After the administrative process at RS Hermina IKN was completed, Mr. Pantouw's body was flown to Jakarta and was scheduled to arrive at the funeral home on Sunday morning, July 26. The sudden death of Mr. Pantouw, who played a key role in the IKN project, raises concerns about the continuity of its communication efforts and related work. The IKN project, a major national undertaking to relocate the capital from Jakarta, may face renewed scrutiny regarding the health and working conditions of its personnel.
