Vietnam Accelerates '500-Day Campaign' for Fallen Soldiers' Remains, Fostering Hope for Return

The '500-Day Campaign' to accelerate the collection and identification of remains of fallen soldiers is progressing across Vietnam. This campaign aims to gather the remains of soldiers who perished in past conflicts, particularly the Vietnam War, and return them to their families. In Tay Ninh province, a movement under the slogan 'Find Comrades' has been launched. With the message 'Every piece of information is a hope – every collected remains means a comrade returns,' it encourages the engagement of each citizen. This initiative is part of the efforts towards the 80th anniversary of the 'Wounded Soldiers and Fallen Heroes Day'. Hung Yen province has reported the completion of its '500-Day Campaign,' which included the collection of bone marrow samples. In Dien Bien province, three collectives and 98 individuals were awarded for their outstanding or unexpected contributions to the campaign. The province continues its efforts to expedite the operation's progress, achieving notable results. Furthermore, leaders from the 2nd Military Region visited and encouraged the units engaged in the '500-Day Campaign' in Dien Bien. These developments reflect Vietnam's commitment to confronting the legacy of past wars, honoring the sacrifices made, and strengthening national unity. Under Vietnam's single-party system, national commemorative projects and the management of memories of past wars are crucial elements for fostering patriotism and maintaining social stability. This remains collection activity should be understood within this context. Additionally, it may also serve to strengthen domestic cohesion amidst complex relations with China.
