AI Summary

A project to install solar-powered irrigation systems is underway in Cambodia's Kampong Cham province. This initiative is expected to expand irrigation capacity from approximately 900 hectares to over 20,000 hectares, contributing to stable agricultural production with three harvests per year.

A project to install solar-powered irrigation systems is being advanced in Prey Chhor district, Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. On September 20, 2026, Governor Un Channda of Kampong Cham province, accompanied by technical officials and relevant authorities, inspected the Hun Sen No. 15 pumping station in Banteay Thmey village, Samrong commune, Prey Chhor district. Currently, this pumping station operates on fuel oil, but the aim is to transition to a more efficient and sustainable water supply system by installing solar panels. According to Governor Un Channda, the current system can supply irrigation water to approximately 900 hectares of farmland within the irrigation system. However, upon completion of the installation of solar-powered water pumps, the irrigable cultivated area is expected to expand to over 20,000 hectares. This will benefit residents in parts of Cheung Prey district that fall under this irrigation system and is expected to ensure water availability for three harvests per year. The governor urged technical officials to cooperate closely with local authorities and stakeholders to clearly organize water user communities. This is to manage and distribute water in a way that ensures efficient irrigation for farmers' farmlands. This initiative is expected to contribute to improving Cambodia's agricultural productivity and enhancing its climate change adaptation capacity. Source: AKP Khmer
