Cambodia's Information Ministry Urges Provincial Media to Strengthen Role as Official Information Channels

The Ministry of Information has urged provincial media outlets to strengthen their role as 'official information channels' for their respective provincial administrations, aiming to disseminate accurate and timely information to the public. This initiative is intended to combat misinformation and promote the government's efforts. During a meeting held on July 17, 2026, at the provincial information office in Udor Mean Chey province, Tep Asnarith, Secretary of State and spokesperson for the Ministry of Information, encouraged provincial information officials to enhance their capabilities and actively fulfill their duties. He emphasized the importance of provincial media serving as effective 'official information channels' by providing truthful, clear, and timely news. In his remarks, Tep Asnarith commended the Udor Mean Chey Provincial Information Office for its good cooperation with local authorities in facilitating national and international journalists during past Thai military incursions. He highlighted their role in providing accurate information to the public regarding the situation and developments in the conflict-affected areas. The spokesperson urged information officials to continue their daily information and public opinion work diligently and to prevent the further spread of fake news on social media. He stressed the need to enhance effective cooperation with local journalists and relevant parties to regularly disseminate factual information about the efforts of the government and provincial administrations in local development, security, and public order. He stated that all information content produced by provincial information offices should be published on their official websites and shared across social media platforms such as Facebook, Telegram, and TikTok, as well as traditional media like radio and television, to boost the effectiveness of information management and dissemination. Tep Asnarith added that the production of comprehensive, accurate, and timely local information would facilitate residents, investors, and tourists in understanding various information and the tourism potential of the provinces more easily. Chan Sopheap, Director of the Udor Mean Chey Provincial Information Office, also highly praised the staff for their active work in the information and public opinion sector during the past waves of Thai military incursions into Cambodia. Chan Sopheap further advised information officials to keep pace with technological advancements, manage public opinion work promptly, clearly, and accurately to effectively neutralize fake news, and contribute to maintaining social stability and supporting national development.
