Cambodia and Vietnam Reaffirm Commitment to Closer Cooperation

HANOI, July 29, 2026 (KPT) — The leaders of Cambodia and Vietnam have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, pledging closer cooperation to support sustainable development and shared prosperity. The pledge was made during talks in Hanoi on Tuesday between Cambodia’s National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary and Vietnam’s Communist Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, as part of her official visit. According to Cambodia’s National Assembly, the two leaders agreed to advance relations based on “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long‑term stability.” To Lam welcomed Sudary and her delegation, describing the visit as a reflection of the longstanding relationship between the neighbours. He congratulated Cambodia on its socio‑economic progress under Prime Minister Hun Manet’s government. Sudary congratulated To Lam on his re‑election for the 2026‑2031 term and praised his vision of guiding Vietnam towards developed, high‑income status by 2045. She also commended Vietnam’s governance, reforms and anti‑corruption efforts. She briefed To Lam on earlier talks with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, noting both sides had agreed to revise a 2022 memorandum of understanding to reflect current priorities and expand parliamentary cooperation.
