The initiative aims to improve quality healthcare services for local residents, including expanding dental and eye care.
Dr. O Vandy, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health and Chair of the Primary Healthcare Acceleration Framework (PHC-BIF) Working Group, led a meeting and conducted an on-site inspection in Svay Rieng Province on July 3rd to strengthen and promote the implementation of PHC-BIF at the local level, particularly in Chantrea District. The presence of Dr. O Vandy in Svay Rieng Province reflects the high commitment of the government and the Ministry of Health to improving public health and ensuring that every citizen receives quality and equitable healthcare services. During this important occasion, Dr. O Vandy led the working group to inspect the Mesor Rork Health Center in Mesor Rork Commune, Chantrea District. Dr. O Vandy instructed the head of the Mesor Rork Health Center to further enhance healthcare service delivery and to rectify any shortcomings. She specifically emphasized the organization of primary dental and primary eye examination services at the health center, demonstrating the Ministry of Health's dedication to providing comprehensive healthcare services to local residents. Following the inspection, Dr. O Vandy chaired a meeting on the progress of the PHC-BIF implementation for the first quarter of 2026 and future directions at the Chantrea District Hall. The meeting was actively attended by Mr. Nhem Sary, Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng Province; Dr. Then Sabun, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Health, representing Dr. Kuch Sitha, Director of the Provincial Department of Health; Mr. Thon Tavutha, Governor of Chantrea District; as well as commune and village authorities, health officials, village health support teams, and many other stakeholders, showcasing the strong cooperation among various relevant sectors in promoting public health. Speaking at the event, Mr. Nhem Sary, Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng Province, highlighted that health is the most valuable asset. He stated that regular health check-ups at hospitals or health centers are the most crucial investment for maintaining good health and comprehensively monitoring physical well-being. Concurrently, he reminded citizens to avoid self-medicating or selling medicine without proper prescriptions from qualified doctors, as it can severely harm health and increase the risk of drug resistance. Inaccurate diagnoses lead to the misuse of medication, prompting him to urge citizens to refrain from obtaining medicine from pharmacies without a doctor's prescription. In parallel, Dr. O Vandy conveyed greetings from Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, who commended all levels of local authorities and health officials in the districts for their diligent efforts in achieving numerous accomplishments in the health sector in Svay Rieng Province. She emphasized that primary healthcare is an inter-sectoral task requiring active participation from all stakeholders, including state institutions, the private sector, local authorities, monks, temple committees, partner organizations, and especially the citizens themselves, to effectively ensure public well-being. To broaden health awareness, Dr. O Vandy requested relevant officials, particularly health officials, to continue disseminating health knowledge, such as "less salt, less fat, less sugar," and to promote awareness about the harmful effects of smoking and all types of electronic cigarettes, as well as reducing alcohol consumption among the populace to enhance health and safety within the community. Dr. O Vandy conveyed her regards and instructions to health officials and local authorities at the village, commune, and district levels, as well as all village health support teams, to continue and increase their focus on promoting the implementation of the PHC-BIF in their respective communities. This includes further improving the quality of healthcare services and the involvement of relevant partners within the community in health protection and care to be more effective, and to consider the PHC-BIF as a responsibility within the context of the entire nation to respond to the health needs of the local population.
