99 pickpockets arrested in Yangon from April 20 to July 7

It has been learned from the Myanmar Police Force that 99 individuals who committed pickpocketing on YBS bus lines, at bus stops, and in public places in Yangon from April 20 to July 7 have been arrested. It is reported that security forces conducted information gathering and undercover surveillance in townships within the Yangon Region to reduce group pickpocketing incidents on YBS bus lines, at bus stops, and in public places, and took action to identify and arrest offenders. Through these efforts, from April 20 to July 7, a total of 117 cases and 99 offenders, comprising 94 males and five females, were identified and arrested in Thanlyabin, Insein, Hlaing Thar Yar (East), Hlaing Thar Yar (West), Thingangyun, Botataung, Dagon Seikkan, Thaketa, Latha, Mingalar Taung Nyunt, Dagon Myothit (North), Dagon Myothit (East), Dagon Myothit (Seikkan), Pabedan, Lanmadaw, Kyauktada, San Chaung, Mayangone, North Okkalapa, Kamayut, and Bahan townships within the region. It is reported that 140 mobile phones and K6,570,000 in cash, which were evidence of the pickpocketing, were confiscated. It is reported that to reduce crime and eradicate illicit activities within the Yangon Region, daily operations are being carried out in cooperation with the respective administrative organizations in each district, including patrols, stakeouts, and surveillance, as well as checking household registrations, conducting crime awareness lectures, distributing awareness pamphlets, and holding lectures on traffic and road rules in cooperation with traffic police and administrative organizations, and arresting vehicles that violate regulations.
