Son La Province Accelerates DNA Identification of Fallen Heroes

In Vietnam's northern Son La Province, DNA identification of fallen soldiers' remains is being advanced in late July. Many bereaved families, carrying "Death Notification Letters," "Certificates of National Merit," and various keepsakes preserved for decades, are visiting to provide DNA samples. Their hope is to identify their relatives who fell for the nation's independence and freedom. This initiative is part of a nationwide state project aimed at identifying the remains of unidentified war heroes. Son La Province has a history of collecting and consolidating the remains of five fallen soldiers during the "500-Day Campaign." This campaign, though marked by significant sacrifices, was a crucial phase in achieving national independence and unification. Similar efforts are actively underway in Lam Dong and Quang Tri provinces, with Quang Tri collecting over 1,000 DNA samples. These activities are recognized as vital social endeavors to heal the wounds of war and honor the nation's history and its fallen heroes. Under Vietnam's one-party system, commemorating heroes who sacrificed for national unity and development, and showing consideration for their families, are crucial elements of national cohesion. While Vietnam continues its economic growth, the memories of past wars remain deeply etched in the hearts of its people. Such bone identification projects play a role in fostering patriotism and contributing to social stability.
