State President and Wife Pay Homage to the Remains of the Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw

State President U Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla visited and paid homage to the remains of the Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw Bhaddanta Janakabhivamsa on September 20. The Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw Bhaddanta Janakabhivamsa passed away in Yangon on September 19. It is reported that the Sayadaw became a novice monk at the age of 15 and received the title of Abhivamsa from the Mandalay Pariyatti Sasana Hita Association before turning 27. It is said that the Sayadaw diligently practiced Vipassana meditation under the guidance of the Mahasi Sayadaw in 1953. After that, the Sayadaw established the Chanmyay Rinpoche Kammatana Monastery on Kabar Aye Pagoda Road in Yangon for yogis to practice meditation, and also established branch monasteries both domestically and internationally. It is reported that the Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw, who contributed to the propagation of Vipassana meditation, was 99 years old and had been a monk for 79 years at the time of his passing.
