Cambodia Launches Dengue Fever Awareness Campaign in Koh Kong Province
A dengue fever prevention campaign has been launched in Cambodia's Koh Kong province. Phnom Penh, Cambodia – July 26, 2026 – Chhuon Yada, Executive Director of the Cambodian Red Cross, Koh Kong Provincial Branch, on July 26, 2026, led a working group in collaboration with HE Dr. Tou Meng, Director of the Provincial Department of Health, to launch a public awareness campaign on dengue fever prevention measures, including the spraying of Abate insecticide in homes. The campaign was attended by civil servants from various ministries, sub-branch officials, health center staff, Red Cross volunteers, and members of the three armed forces, reaching a large number of residents in Khemarak Phoumin City. HE Dr. Tou Meng, Director of the Provincial Department of Health and Secretary of the Provincial Committee, conveyed a message of well-wishes from HE Chea Vaa, Chairperson of the Provincial Committee, to all citizens present. The objective of this campaign is to ensure that all residents in the community understand dengue fever prevention measures. As this is the rainy season, with rainfall occurring everywhere, water accumulation creates suitable habitats for mosquitoes. Participants adhered to the slogan, "I and my family are a model family because my house and my residence are free of mosquito larvae." During the event, the working group highlighted several educational messages for a healthy community, emphasizing the understanding of four major non-communicable diseases that occur daily: cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and chronic respiratory diseases. These conditions are linked to daily dietary habits, such as excessive sugar, salt, and fat intake, aligning with the slogan, "Love yourself, love your food." To enhance community resilience to climate change, participation in the following actions was called for: * Urging citizens to be vigilant against dengue fever. * Participating in planting trees in public areas. * Avoiding burning or burying plastic bottle waste in the ground. * Promptly seeking medical attention at the nearest health center or hospital if experiencing discomfort or fever.
