Thakhek Begins Construction of New Landmark Clock Tower

Construction has commenced on a landmark clock tower, the first of its kind in Thakhek city, Khammouane Province, in central Laos. The project, valued at 2.5 billion Kip (approximately USD 150,000), saw its commencement ceremony on the 25th, attended by Dr. Somsaath Ounsida, President of the Khammouane Provincial Administration Committee, along with district authorities and relevant officials. The construction followed traditional Lao customs, commencing with religious rites led by senior monks, followed by the erection of the main pillar and the laying of the foundation stone. The clock tower is being built as a new landmark for Thakhek city, with the aim of improving its urban landscape and creating a more attractive and liveable environment. Furthermore, it is expected to serve as a new attraction for domestic and international visitors, offering a prominent location for sightseeing and photography, thereby contributing to the promotion of Thakhek’s tourism potential. Authorities anticipate that the project will enhance the city’s appearance and support tourism development, as well as broader socio-economic opportunities across Khammouane Province.
