Cambodia's Ministry of Labor Brings Job Opportunities 'Home,' Promotes Social Security and TVET Programs Locally

The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has organized a forum on employment, social security, and vocational training in Thma Bang district, Koh Kong province. This initiative aims to directly deliver information on nearly 1,000 job opportunities, social security (BoSS) benefits, and vocational training (TVET) programs to approximately 500 local residents, particularly former migrant workers returning from Thailand and young job seekers. Speaking at the forum themed "Khmer Helps Find Jobs and Gives Jobs to Khmer," Pan Nora, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, stated that the government, with the ministry as its arm, is committed to improving citizens' living standards and boosting the national economy. He noted that there are currently over 90,000 job opportunities nationwide within enterprises and factories, allowing citizens to register, interview, and secure employment immediately. Mr. Nora emphasized that bringing job opportunities "home to the community" offers benefits beyond wages and allowances, including access to BoSS and the ability to live with family. He highlighted that overseas employment can present risks such as safety hazards, exploitation, lack of health protection, and discrimination, along with living far from family. To enhance living standards and national economic growth, young people can enroll in various specialized training courses for free through the TVET 1.5 Million program at the Koh Kong Polytechnic Institute. With qualified instructors and modern facilities, these courses aim to improve job prospects or support self-employment after graduation. Furthermore, for former workers with construction skills, the ministry organizes Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) tests, enabling them to obtain official skill certificates and potentially earn higher incomes. In addition to domestic employment, the ministry continues to provide safe and high-paying overseas job opportunities. Mr. Nora encouraged residents to actively disseminate information about job opportunities, BoSS benefits, and TVET programs.
