Cambodia and Russia Boost Tourism Ties, Direct Flights Key
With Russian tourist arrivals to Cambodia reaching only about 30,000 in the first eight months of the year, the Russian Ambassador noted that the tourism potential between the two countries remains untapped. The Cambodian government views the Russian market as a new potential market, and both nations aim to strengthen cooperation through tourism promotion roadmaps and the establishment of direct flights.
The number of Russian tourists visiting Cambodia reached approximately 30,000 in the first eight months of this year. Russian Ambassador to Cambodia, Anatoly Borovik, stated that this figure does not yet reflect the existing tourism potential. He made these remarks during a meeting held on September 18th at the Ministry of Tourism to launch a roadmap for Cambodian tourism to the Russian market. The Russian Ambassador also affirmed that Russia is making strong efforts to further promote tourism between Cambodia and Russia. He sees the opening of direct flights between the two countries as a special opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation. During the event, Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon, stated that the Cambodian government considers the Russian market a new potential market that needs to be actively engaged with in a timely and targeted manner. The Cambodian government has identified the Russian market as a key target market that Cambodia must pay high attention to and transform its potential into actual tourist flows to Cambodia. "The Russian market is a market with high potential, while Cambodia has abundant natural and cultural tourism products. Therefore, what we need to do is connect these two potentials into actual tourist flows and achieve mutual benefits," emphasized the Minister of Tourism. The Minister of Tourism added that Cambodia's goal is to move beyond attracting tourists to increasing volume, and then gradually promote from volume to quality tourists, meaning those who stay longer, spend more, travel to multiple destinations, and return to Cambodia.
