Svay Rieng Province Cracks Down on Online Scam Hub, Detains 10 Foreigners
Authorities in Cambodia's Svay Rieng province have raided a suspected online scam operation, leading to the arrest of 10 Vietnamese nationals. Numerous electronic devices were seized, and investigations are ongoing at the technology crime department.
In Svay Rieng province, southeastern Cambodia, a joint provincial force has raided a suspected online scam operation, leading to the arrest of 10 foreign nationals. The operation was led by the provincial administration and conducted in Bavet city, a location some distance from the capital, Phnom Penh. Acting on behalf of the provincial governor, Deputy Governor Men Eng oversaw the inspection of suspicious locations within the RT Residence, a residential area in Tapoup village, Bavet city. This operation was conducted under the coordination of Deputy Prosecutor Srey Sun Yut from the Provincial Court and involved the participation of Deputy Provincial Police Commissioner Ly Channny, Bavet City Mayor Men Chanra, along with police forces and relevant authorities. During the administrative inspection of 10 residential units, a total of 48 foreign nationals (9 females) were found. These individuals held Chinese (29, including 1 female) and Vietnamese (19, including 8 females) nationalities, all possessing valid passports and visas. Separately, in a crackdown on a suspected online scamming location within a villa, authorities apprehended 10 suspects of Vietnamese nationality (4 females). Confiscated evidence included 12 mobile phones, 10 all-in-one computers, 2 laptops, 5 monitors, 10 passports, and a Honda Airblade motorcycle with license plate number 83-PZ 010.35. The 10 suspects and the seized items have been transferred to the Technology Crime Suppression Office of the Svay Rieng Provincial Police Commissioner's Office for further questioning and legal proceedings.
