Luxury Car Dealer Owner Faces Trial for Embezzlement

In Ho Chi Minh City, Phan Công Khanh (32), the former owner of a luxury car dealership, is on trial for embezzlement, accused of illicitly selling and pawning customers' high-end vehicles. He is being tried alongside accomplices Huỳnh Xuân Vấn (39, currently a fugitive) and Mohamach Da Pha (30) at the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court. According to reports, Khanh allegedly resorted to these fraudulent acts to repay debts incurred due to business losses. Specifically, he is accused of illegally pawning a McLaren valued at 7.1 billion VND (approximately $280,000 USD) and selling a Brabus G800 for 24 billion VND (approximately $950,000 USD). He is alleged to have borrowed the Brabus G800 from its buyer under the pretense of displaying it at his showroom, only to then resell it to another customer at a higher price. His accomplice, Da Pha, is accused of borrowing a BMW worth 870 million VND (approximately $34,000 USD) from a client and subsequently pawning it without authorization. Khanh appears to have largely admitted to the charges during the court proceedings. While the three alleged victims did not appear in court, eight out of 24 individuals with related rights and obligations were present. Six lawyers are representing the defendants. This case is drawing attention as it sheds light on fraudulent schemes targeting the affluent in Vietnam. As the country's economy grows, so does the demand for luxury vehicles, but unfortunately, illicit activities involving these high-value assets persist. Further investigation and proceedings are ongoing.
